Found Old 1970 green Kamado for $150

Hi all name is Paul I'm new to this forum. very interesting glad I found it becouse I was looking to buy a new Kamado someday

Anyhow
I found a green ceramic Kamado that looks to be in great shape for $150. The owner says its from the 1970's and has around an 18 grate. If it's in good shape Is this thing worth buying
I have been around BBQ for quite sometime. always wanted a BGA or Kamado right now I BBQ on a Weber Smokey mountain and a BBQ galore offset. I was about to order a stocker for the WSM but then I found the Kamado for $150 now I don't know if I should buy the Kamado or get the Stocker for my WSM and offset

Any input would be much appreciated

Welcome, Paul,

If the unit really is in good condition, then I'd say that's an excellent price to get into ceramics. Ceramic grills cost upward of $500 new. If you can snag it, you'll have fun with it, I'm sure.

There's a few guys on the BBQ-Brethren forum that collect & restore old Kamados...

Yours could be a Pachinko Palace one, or maybe a Imperial Kamado, or a Sazco.

You got a steal, NICE!

You have the original patented kamado from Farhad Sazegar. What a find. I'm jealous.

Search the forum for "Sazco" and you'll find the whole story.

Sazco cookers were made by the gentleman who obtained the utility patent on kamado-style cookers. (The replica patent that you may see being auctioned on eBay is only a design patent which means that it only protects the particular appearance of the item, not the design of what it does and how it does it.) Nice find! You own a cooker made by the original designer of kamado-style cookers! I think a lot of people would like to get one of those, if for no other reason that to own a working bit of history.

Blazen that original Sazco is a ray of sunshine! It is really great to see someone reject a Kamado and buy elsewhere. Make Richard Crenna proud and Try some of the Sand Pebbles recipes they are pretty good. Keep posting I can't wait to hear about the results. Very Happy
