I received an email with pricing for the M63 but have had no subsequent response; it seems silly to pursue a company asking to give them money. I’m trying to work in good faith to maintain (repair) my grill and keep it working. Does anyone have experience using Rutland Cement as suggested earlier in the thread? Should it be applied in the same way?

There are two things to note here. First, of course, a customer of Kamado cannot get the company to provide service. Kamado isn't in the last days of a sale, so they can't use that excuse again (although it was a bogus excuse to begin with). Why can't they simply take orders and ship products? Why can't they even do something as simple as answer the phone or reply to an email?

Second is that this poor soul has to struggle to maintain his grill and keep it working. I don't know of any other brands of ceramic cookers that require such struggling to simply keep them running. Maybe it is because when owners of other cookers have a problem, getting the problem resolved is not a struggle, but rather a simple matter of contacting the company and getting a prompt courteous reply that doesn't blame the owner for all his problems.

Same here. Got an email last week with an incorrect invoice (second time) and no follow up since despite sending emails to Laura, Richard and Sales. Not sure why the lack of interest from Kamado. I have been trying to buy charcoal and get a replacement firebox since early August. Can't believe it has been over two months for such a simple order. I want to support Kamado's business, but they are making it difficult to do so.
It really makes you wonder what is really going on over there. These are very reasonable requests and should be really simple orders to fill. It has become really sad and yet the real fanboy's keep hanging on till the end. These guy's really need to just quit trying to do business with the kompany and and look for any other alternative. Best wishes DavidX and Buzz. Wink

At least you have a BBQ. I've been trying to get some info on my order 95% paid for weeks. Guess all are attending customer service classes.

Well, at least some of their ignored customers have a sense of humor. Attending customer service classes. Yeah. Right. LMAO! Bellying up to the casino buffets is more like it!

Morally Bankrupt Kompany!

McGhost should really try and get his money back now! Hopefully it's not to late. I don't think a business like that should go on much longer. They can't be relied upon for the smallest customer problems. They don't even reply on the forum anymore. Even the fanboys have just about stopped helping R.J. They might be taking money on the big items and losing it in the casino. I really think they may be about bankrupt. It's become very sad. I really hope somehow everything turns out well for these guys. Wink

Laura,

I received your message and e-mailed again regarding a price for some items to get my Kamado up and running again, but once again I never receive any response. How do I go about getting the items I need?

R.J's Twin: Hello there Vinnied, Sorry that we have not returned your emails. We were out at Treasure Island watching O to celebrate Laura and Tara's birthday. We sure had a great time with all of the money we have recieved during our last sale from products we did'nt deliver. We are now about ready to take your order as we are running low on money. Vegas can be very expensive when your having fun. Please understand a lot of long hours go into bringing you all the best BBQ in the world and we need a break once in a while away from the phones and the forum. We would also like to suggest you also order one of our new welders early before we run out. As it is a must have for every Kamado owner. Regards R.J's Twin

Can someone explain what the status is here?
Does Dano have an earlier rod firebox or something? Based on the thread that Alanz references above in his post there should have been a fix to these fireboxes so the gas option would fit. It also references Richard sending a new firebox to another customer to fix the issue.

Are the new fireboxes the correct height?
OR - Are they shipping with enough included M63 to make them work?
Are those with interference problems expected to fix their own?
Is there so much variation in the original cookers that a universal rod firebox can't be made?
What's the story?

I think the rod firebox is a good idea and I've been waiting in the cyber wings to hear if the problems of interference with the gas option and rods being too far apart to support charcoal have been addressed. I'm not hearing any customer feedback to tell me they have other than a few select folks who aren't having any problems.

And Brianw - Your saying that the manufacturer's method of field fixing a defective product is the best method? A method that potentially includes purchasing more product! YIKES!

Dan

What IS the story? Think he'll get a real answer?

What I said was that Richard's method was better than what I suggested, because it spoke to Dano's point of there being loose hardware that might get swept away in the course of cleaning out ash.

Part of the pleasure of a K is that it is NOT a mass-produced, stamped-out item. Yea, verily, they vary, probably within a batch and certainly over the course of Kamado time. I don't see the rod box not clearing some gas burners in some Kamados by a fraction of an inch as constituting a "defective product."

Rutland fireplace mortar comes in tubes, like caulk. It's good to 2000 degrees. It costs about $4-$5 a tube. A little dab'll do ya. $5 and under falls in the category of "routine maintenance" to my mind, not "purchasing more product."

I have no problem with a field fix as long as it works. YMMV.
Kamado's are not even being produced any more at all! What a numbskull!

it sounds like brianw has some bigger problems with his grill, so he is paying penance with the forum equivalent of tossing RJs salad, in the hopes RJ will reciprocate with warranty work.

Good luck brian, I hope your tongue doesnt get sore while you are waiting

What I would like to know is how did you actually get in touch with someone to order and actually receive your rod firebox. I've bee trying to place an order for parts to maintain my #7 for over 2 months now and have had zero luck.

What's your secret?

With the condition of my original firebox and gasket, about the only thing my #7 is good for now is being part of an artificial reef.

Does anyone out there know why no one contacts you when you wand to order a new rod firebox of M63 or a new gasket?

HELP!!!
Hey Vinnied, I know why. Razz

As Brian mentioned, there is a slight variance in our Kamados. We have raised the height of the Rod Firebox in all new ones and also are including some M63 as an added protection from the gas burner hitting the Rod Fireboxes. My plant manager believes the height of the draft door opening is slightly lower on the Indonesian Kamados. We want the bottom of the Rod Firebox as low as possible, but not hitting the gas burner of course. Thanks for your comments. Richard
R.J has already deleted the post from Vinnied. Now let's see if Vinnied ever get's his products. One of the problems with the kompany is they are out of touch with what is going on at the "plant". I would attribute some of Dennis's success to him being in touch with his product. Should'nt R.J. know the exact size of his product. What about all of those impressive cad drawings? When you are led to believe you are buying a quality cooker and they try and make you do the various repairs and the parts never fit right. That should be enough reason to take your business elsewhere. They spend more time trying to do repairs and trying to get replacement parts than Kooking. Vinnied can't even use his kamado. The fanboy's think somehow they will help revive the kompany and they can tell people how they held their ground and stuck with it. It really isn't a worthy cause but a real waste of time. Would you want to fight a war and the commanding officer won't pull his weight? The kamado really has become a Krappy Kooker!
