I have changed our M63 high temperature coating to M63D. The formula is exactly the same but in a DRY form, that is, not in liquid clay form. The advantages now are: (1) safer and easier to send (2) much longer shelf life (3) and more coverage at the same price per pound ($7.99 plus shipping). M63D function remains the same as to the maximum temperature of over 2000 degrees F and not effect by thermal shock.
The simple preparation for application is just by mixing drinking water to the dry M63D to a desired paste or even brushing consistency. Two coats or more might be necessary..
We strongly suggest applying M63D to the “hot face” (inside) including the firebox for all older ceramic cookers, including our Kamados. If a crack appears in the ceramic walls, simply apply M63D as instructed. This will prevent all replacement problems if M63 maintenance is followed. The approximate amount of M63D necessary to coat the entire hot face, including the firebox for a #3 is 3 pounds, #5 is 5 pounds, a #7 9 to 10 pounds and a #9 12 to 15 pounds.
For commercial Kamado users maintaining M63D is a required maintenance item which might be required after 2 or 3 years or as necessary. For those of use that use our Kamados 2 or 3 times a week and for many high temperature cooks (including occasional “run away” or over temperatures), M63D is highly recommended.
M63D is an excellent material to use when setting the damper top collar, strengthening or filling any areas around the draft door frame and "triangle" ("spider"). M63D is "water proof".

First of all, BS! His cookers are not made from ceramic.
Second, so to maintain your lifetime guarantee that he won't honor, you have to spend $80 every several years applying this mess to the inside of your cooker. And then there's the $15 shipping. And then there's the fact that odds are you will have to email and call him dozens of times to get an order placed and dozens more to get the order fulfilled? Why would anyone buy one of these cookers from Kamado and RJ? No other manufacturer's cooker will crack like Kamado's do. No other manufacturer expects you to spend close to $100 every few years and then mix up a bucket of slop and coat the inside of your cooker. |
