What to do if you are thinking about buying a Kamado

My story is a common one. I sent nearly $1800 to Kamado in November 2009, received a damaged #7 at Christmas which I refused. Over the next six months of countless promises I gave up playing games and I am now suing them in Nevada Small Claims Court.

How I got into this mess is hard to explain but here are some things I wish I had pondered more carefully.

1. Because most sensible people would run from this kind of company, anyone considering this barbecue must think with their heart and not their head. So, make a list of five people who care about you. Ask them to read over the Kamado Forum and ask them to tell you what they think about buying a Kamado.

2. Read over all the posts. There are hundreds of threads. The stories are not isolated cases but a mosaic of the company’s shameful exploitation of consumer goodwill.

3. Look at their record at the Better Business Bureau both in Nevada – F and in San Diego – F.

4. Look at Facebook to see people’s experiences with them.

5. Look at the online bbq forums. Here’s a sample provided by a previous post.

List of websites that talk about Kamado's bad reputation

6. Do some soul searching. Can you live with a less dramatic bbq from a far more reliable and professional company like the Green Egg? Can you afford to spend some more money and buy a Komodo Kamado? The risks of heartache are much lower in both cases.

Thank you for suing them! We hope you will post the results, whatever the outcome.

Thank goodness for this website. Had it not been for these posts I would have had no way to track them down.
