Broken "top hats" thread on kamado.com

funny how there's been lots of talk on kamado.com concerning maintenance issues, "keeping the k going", etc etc. seems like a new hobby is developing as a result of the breakdown of materials used to make kamados, and their less-than-stellar customer service. in particular, the "top hats" break when their pig-iron bolts rust and are forced in an effort to free them.

several years back, when i frequented the BGE forum alot, there was a fella there (sorry, can't remember who, otherwise i'd give credit) who came up with an AWESOME temp control for the upper draft. a set of stacked disks with different diameter holes drilled thru the centers to allow a set draft aperature and allow really exact temp control.

if anybody here remembers this, esp. the fella that came up with the idea, please post. really simple and elegant solution for temp control. i imagine this would also work really great with lower draft as well.

I just sent this to a friend of mine who scored a Sazco missing the top. I had suggested a BGE daisy wheel, but I think he might like this idea rather. Smile
