I'd been in the market for a cooker for quite a while -- and wound up buying a second-hand Kamado. A LOT of stuff needed done to it, as most of the tiles had come off the bottom half. It looks nice now --- as I used an angle grinder to grind off all the old failed grout and stuff- right down to the actual cooker material. I patched all the cracks with furnace cement, reset all the tiles, gave the inside a skim coat of furnace cement -- and it's looking very good indeed.
The one thing I am still concerned about is the state of what you call the "spider"? It's not in good shape from what I can tell, the metal portion. What can I do/use to replace the spider so this cooker lasts? BTW-- by matching the grill size --- it's a #7 if this matters.

Welcome to the Kamado Forum, Alex. Sounds like you did a nice job.

As for the "triangle" or often called "spider" I would suggest that you be careful to keep the "damper top" rod free so their is always a certain amount of movement and excessive stress on the rods or ceramic seat where the rods enter the neck. If there is an excessive amount of movement around the ceramic hole, you might want to push a little M61,M62,M63 or furnace cement. Our new Kamados have a stainless collar rather than embedding the triangle rods into the ceramic wall. If ever necessary, this can be nice method and/or improvement.

You might want to send us an email request to receive our Newsletter. We hope to have certain things of Kamado interest including certain maintenance suggestions.

Have fun, Richard

Richard -- I think I would like to buy one of these collars. Do you have them in stock? How much?

Alex, wouldn't hurt to have one. They are $49.00 and sales will forward you the information as to inventory. We will continue keep them in inventory if they out. We are supplying them for our old Kamados and other ceramic cookers so sometimes we are out.

If you can provide sales with the prior owner's name we can check the data base for type thread, if you don't know.

It was a cash deal -- so I don't really know his name. Besides, he said he had picked it up as a project and didn't do anything. I believe he said that the previous owner told him it was Mexican-made in 2005, if I remember correctly? From my research through your site, this sounds about right. I'm sure you have a record of what you were using at that time.

Do you have any that would fit in stock now?

That would be fine Alex. They were all standard threads.

Good! Do you have one in stock? I'd be delighted to buy it.
I was looking for an on-line order form and could not find one, otherwise you would have had the order and a credit card already.
How does one go about ordering parts on this site? Is there a form and I just did not spot the link?

Ok -- now I believe the stories and comments on this forum, harsh as they are. I have heard NOTHING from "Sales" or anyone else regarding availability and how to purchase this collar. And yes, ALL my emails come to me, none missed. There simply has not been any communication. What hoops DOES one have to do to buy a accessory from this manufacturer? Or should I just give up and try to get someone to make this for me?

I would prefer to buy this from you... but it seems like no one here is interested in selling.

It's definitely a process, isn't it?

Alex we have not heard from you!! We would be happy to send you the dimensions if you would like to make it yourself, if so PLEASE email us so that we can respond. FYI just because you tell RJ that you would like to order something, does not qualify as an order, we would need more information than what you provided in your profile.
We will be patiently awaiting your email or call so that we can help in this matter to your liking.
Have a wonderful Day!
See Alex is being advised to make it himself. She even is willing to provide dimensions. Shocked That was sure nice of Deborah. All the worry over nothing! Laughing

Notice that no one in that thread told Alex how to contact sales. He asked twice how he should place the order. You'd think that in a company where everyone in the entire company live in a rented house together, that they would be able to handle his request?

Alex,
It is 5:00 pm and we have not heard from you either by email or telephone, I had hoped that we would get this resolved today so you would not be upset and become one of our customers that feels that we have wronged you.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Deborah

Maybe Alex decided to make his own after all. Laughing

Holy COW, Alex! What do you mean you didn't get to the computer? Richard and Deborah are sitting by the phone and constantly hitting the REFRESH key on their browser AND their email program waiting for your call or email. How thoughtless of you!

Sorry -- I did not sit down to the computer yesterday.

Deborah and Richard-- I HAVE been calling. Dozens of times. And guess what-- no one ever, EVER picks up the phone. I gave up. Besides, Richard had SAID Sales would contact me -- I never got a single email.

I had asked several very simple questions that yet have to be answered.
1) Is the specific collar I need, for a #7 2005 vintage, in stock currently, able to ship immediately after payment?
2) Is there an online order form I can fill out, submit a credit card, and get said (hopefully in-stock) collar shipped?

IF it's not in stock, I suppose you should send me the drawings so I can get it made without waiting 4-6 months or more.

Seriously, though. Why can't Richard understand that kustomers have posted time and time again that NO ONE EVER ANSWERS THE PHONE! And time and time again, Richard says that no one ever calls. So Richard, this also begs the question:

Are these dozens of customers lying or is Richard lying?

The next customer that suspects they're going to get the run-around should start a video or audio diary. Narrate entries along the lines of:

"It's 10:40a on 08/21/08 and I'm dialing 1-800-xxx-xxxx as listed on the K forum website. One ringydingy, two ringydingies, three ringydingies... darn, no answer."

"Here's the email I'm sending to richardjohnson@kamado.com, laurajohnson@kamado.com, deborah@kamado.com, and richelle@kamado.com. It reads, 'Dear RJ.....' I'm pressing the send button now at 08/21/08 @10:41a"

"It's 8/22, I've yet to hear from the Kompany. Nope, no email from them either. Better check my spam folder.... nope nothing here as of yet. Guess I better call and email again."

Repeat daily or twice weekly or whatever.

Document a month or two's worth of frustration.

Then post on the K forum that you're having an issue. When RJ posts that you need to contact him directly, post a link to the video diary you just posted on Youtube.

Enjoy the hilarity that ensues.

Alex's account got deleted, of course. He'd PM'd me, and then emailed me after they shut him down. Sucks, doesn't it?

Truly incredible. The guy wants to do business with them. Their business model is all screwed up. You can't order from the web page. They give him bad advice on how to order. They don't answer the phone or email. He asks for help, and they ban him from their forum.

Do you think RJ hit it big at the casino? Is that why he doesn't give a toot about selling anything?

RJ doesn't have one to sell. He is only interested in selling cookers where he can get the 50% down payment to fund his company
